What is Pediatrics?
Pediatrics is the medical specialty concerned with the health of children from birth through adolescence. Mammoth Hospital believes that parents and their children should have access to up-to-date and comprehensive pediatric services.  Our pediatricians have many years of training and experience, and are committed to keeping abreast of the latest developments in this field.

Preventive Services

Our partnership with you may begin with the birth of your baby, or with your move to the Eastern Sierra. New parents rapidly learn to care for their infant as they trust their instincts, communicating with us when advice or reassurance is needed.

The idea that “the only thing constant in life is change” certainly is verified by children. “Well child” visits help develop our relationship with you, and provide a baseline for comparison when problems or illnesses occur. Our time with you will help to maximize the tremendous potential for growth and development of both parent and child in each stage of the life cycle; infant, child, adolescent, and adult.

We are interested in the health of the entire family unit. Some of the important issues that may be discussed include breast feeding and nutrition, immunizations, sleep problems, discipline, divorce, single parent and blended families, various chronic medical problems, school problems such as learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders, and prevention and treatment of substance abuse and teen pregnancy.

Chronic medical conditions are dealt with through a “medical home,” which is your entry point into the health care system. Through a variety of specialists, accessed by travel, phone, email, or telemedicine, we are positioned to coordinate the needed care to help each child receive maximum potential.

Illnesses and Injuries
For acute problems, we provide services such as office visits, hospitalization, and occasionally transport to a more sophisticated medical facility. To ensure that visitors have an enjoyable stay, we will offer initial medical care for your child, and then provide records and follow-up care to the physician back home for continued care.

Illnesses and injuries never occur at convenient times. Whether the office is open or not, we are committed to being a resource for you to decide whether to care for your child at home or to arrange for a visit.

24-hour telephone number:  (760) 924-4000
Your access to us is always through our 24-hour phone line. When the office is open, we offer appointments and telephone advice on the routine care of minor illnesses. Appointments are available on a same day basis.

When the office is not open, you should follow the voice mail instructions. One of us will be paged, and will call you back as soon as possible. You will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns, and to make satisfactory arrangements for your child’s needs to be met.

For serious emergencies, always call 911!

Our Clinicians

Katie Price, M.D., pediatrician, joined Sierra Park Pediatrics in 2004. She completed her residency training in Salt Lake City and worked in private practice for a year before joining Sierra Park Pedicatrics.  Dr. Price earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Boston College and her medical degree from Georgetown University; she is board certified in pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  “My philosophy about pediatrics is to describe the pediatrician as a teacher,” says Dr. Price. “I believe that I can best help my patients and their parents by not only treating their problems, but also teaching them about disease and health.”  Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, upon completion of her residency, Dr. Price received all three residency program teaching awards presented from the faculty, the students, and fellow residents.  Dr. Price grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and though she is a Midwest girl at heart, she has fallen in love with the mountains. Her husband, Richard Price, MD, works for both Sierra Park Family Medicine and Sierra Park Orthopedic & Sport Medicine Clinics. The Prices both enjoy outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, biking and swimming.

Maria King, D.O., will join the Sierra Park Pediatric team at Mammoth Hospital in July. Dr. King completed her residency training at Children’s Hospital of Orange County in 2005. Her experience includes working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UCLA as well as conducting research in preterm birth for the National Institutes of Health. Before going into medicine, Dr. King worked for the Department of Defense as a professional computer hacker. While working at the Department of Defense, she met her husband, Jon, a computer engineer. They were married in Mammoth in 1990. Dr. King is a long-time member of the National Ski Patrol, winning the Southern California Outstanding Female Ski Patroller award in 2002. She recently joined the June Mountain Ski Patrol. The King family enjoys skiing, swimming, watching movies together, and spending time with friends.
