The Mammoth S.P.O.R.T. Center’s medically-based weight management program is geared toward life-style changes for healthy, long-term weight management. Participants will acquire knowledge and tools that will provide a foundation for lifelong healthy habits. The program is under the medical direction of Dr. Richard Price, M.D. Baseline testing is done to screen for medical risk factors and to provide benchmarks for improvement. Testing includes resting metabolic rate, sub-maximal exercise test, cardiac risk factor assessment, weight/height, body mass index, body composition, fasting cholesterol/lipid panel, and resting blood pressure. A resting EKG may be required for certain age categories and/or based upon results of the cardiovascular risk factor assessment and health history.

Each participant will meet with the hospital’s exercise physiologist, Rita Klabacha, MS. Rita will conduct the baseline measurements and provide a custom exercise prescription based on this data. Every participant will complete a three-day food log and schedule an hour meeting with Mammoth Hospital’s registered dietician, Pam Mason, RD. Pam will provide the individual with a nutrition assessment and prescription for healthy weight loss based on caloric needs found in the metabolic testing and results from the food log. For more information visit www.mypyramid.gov.

The program also requires participation Monday evenings for the group education and activity class. During these group sessions, an educational talk will be presented along with a related activity component. Additionally, these groups sessions are intended to provide accountability and support, and invite discussion about individual program success or problem-solving. Individual weigh-ins will also be taken during these classes. This weekly session has been found to be an essential component to the success of the participant’s program.

At the end of 12 weeks, each participant will be re-tested. Results will then be compared with initial baseline measurements and participants will receive a revised analysis.
